How to start a Wix Website

How to start a Wix Website and use the purchased template step-by-step

Step 1: Sign Up or Log In to Wix

  • Visit Wix.com: Open your web browser and go to Wix.com.
  • Sign Up: If you don’t have an account, click on “Get Started” or “Sign Up” and follow the prompts to create an account using your email, Google, or Facebook account.
  • Log In: If you already have an account, simply log in with your credentials.

Step 2: Start a New Website

  • Create a New Site: After logging in, you’ll be directed to the Wix Dashboard. Click on the “Create New Site” button.
  • Choose the Type of Site: Wix will ask you what kind of website you want to create. You can choose from options like Business, Online Store, Blog, Portfolio, etc. Select the type that best suits your needs.
  • Select a Template: For now, you can choose any free template, as you will be replacing it with the purchased one later.

Step 3: Access and Accept the Transferred Template

  • Receive the Transfer Notification: Zebra Stripes will initiate the transfer to your Wix account. You’ll receive an email from Wix notifying you about the transfer.
  • Accept the Transfer:
    • Open the email and click on the link provided to accept the transfer.
    • Alternatively, log in to your Wix account, go to the Dashboard, and you should see a notification about the transfer. Click on it and follow the prompts to accept the transfer.

Step 4: Apply the Transferred Template

  • Find the Transferred Site: After accepting the transfer, the template will appear as a new website in your Wix Dashboard. It will have the content and design from the purchased template.
  • Rename the Site: Click on the three dots (…) next to the site name in the Dashboard and select “Rename Site” to give it your preferred name.

Step 5: Customize Your Website

  • Open the Editor: Click on the site to open the Wix Editor, where you can start customizing the template.
  • Edit Content: Replace the placeholder content (text, images, videos) with your own.
    • Text: Click on any text box to edit or replace the text.
    • Images: Click on images to replace them with your own by uploading new images from your computer or choosing from Wix’s media gallery.
    • Pages: You can add, remove, or rearrange pages as needed. Click on “Menus & Pages” on the left side of the editor to manage them.
  • Design Changes: You can change colors, fonts, and other design elements by clicking on “Site Design” on the left-hand panel.
  • Add Features: If you need additional functionality (like forms, online store, bookings), you can add apps from the Wix App Market. Click on the “Add Apps” button to explore and install apps.

Step 6: Set Up Your Domain

  • Purchase a Domain (if you don’t have one): If you don’t already have a domain, you can purchase one directly from Wix or connect a domain you own.
  • Connect a Domain: If you have a domain, go to the “Settings” section in the Dashboard and select “Domains.” Follow the prompts to connect your domain.
  • Choose a Plan: Wix requires a premium plan to connect a domain. Choose a plan that fits your needs (usually a Combo, Unlimited, or Business plan).

Step 7: Preview and Publish Your Site

  • Preview: Click on the “Preview” button in the top right corner of the Editor to see how your website will look to visitors.
  • Publish: Once you’re satisfied with the site, click on the “Publish” button.

 

Hooray, your website is now live!

Step 8: Manage and Update Your Site

  • Update Content: Regularly update your site’s content through the Wix Editor as needed.
  • Monitor Performance: Use the Wix Dashboard to track site performance, manage SEO settings, and make sure everything is running smoothly.

    • Wix Support Center: Visit the Wix Help Center for articles and tutorials on various features.
    • Contact Support: If you encounter any issues, you can contact Wix support through their Help Center for assistance.
